Syme Rooms
The Syme Wing opened in the 1950s and is named after two remarkable cousins, Eveline and Kathleen Syme. They were both key members of the Provisional Committee, which worked hard to make our ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ a reality for women attending the University of Melbourne. Eveline and Kathleen were also part of the first Council, chairing various subcommittees and both serving as President.
Renovated in 2022, our Syme rooms are located in the heart of the ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ with easy access to the tutorial spaces, design studio, library and dining hall. Most rooms have large windows with a north facing aspect, so tend to attract a lot of natural light throughout the day. Syme rooms have a large, spacious floor plan and wooden flooring. The wing is framed by our two courtyards, so youÃÛèÖÊÓƵ™re guaranteed a garden view! Our design studio is also on the top level of the Syme building.
Each level of the Syme Wing has two shared bathrooms, a kitchenette (equipped with sink, fridge, kettle and microwave) and a laundry with washer, dryer, irons and ironing boards.
Each Syme room includes a double bed, mattress/mattress protector, two pillows, desk/chair, bookshelf or chest of drawers, bedside table, lamp, fan, bin, blinds (rooms on the ground floor also have a privacy blind), and a wardrobe with hanging space, shelving and full length mirror.
